After the success of the 1st edition we decided to continue with the organization of the 2nd International Suydersee BBQ Contest on the grounds of the Erkemederstrand in Zeewolde, the geographical center of the Netherlands!

This competition will of course be organized according to the rules and under the auspices of the KCBS, the Kansas City Barbecue Society, the largest BBQ organization in America that has won its spurs in the organization of professional bbq competitions.

The teams fought for the first place in four categories, chicken, spareribs, pork shoulder (pulled pork) and brisket (bovine robin).

The team with the highest average over these 4 categories is declared the Grand Champion of this competition.
There will also be an extra category “dessert”, because we know that this category is highly appreciated by the judges!

The delivery of the products will take place on Sunday from 12.00.

Just like during the 1st edition, we will try to make the event even more attractive for visitors and fun, educational and interesting activities will be organized during the weekend.

As on both days, inflatables for the youth and an “experience” market with a variety of exhibitors.

The teams will be able to participate in the Whole Hog competition in 2018 during this weekend, on Friday evening the teams will start preparations and on Saturday the jury will judge the result.

Probably on Saturday and Sunday a demonstration “pig cutting” will be taken care of and then the butcher will immediately process the meat into hamburgers, sausages and more of that goodies which will be prepared immediately on the BBQ for sale!

On Saturday, the Steak Cook-Off will be held according to the rules of the SCA (Steak Cook-Off Association).

On Sunday, after the “KCBS 7:07 breakfast” (this is the traditional “breakfast” which is enjoyed by the teams and consists of a shot glass Jack Daniels), the VIP’s, the teams and the judges are welcome for a joint breakfast what we provide with fried eggs and bacon on toast and delicious cowboy beans.

In addition to clean toilets, there will be clean hot showers specially for the teams at the location. Of course, the volunteers and judges who have spent the night on the site can also use this.

There is a campsite a few minutes away from the competition grounds (they even have a limited number of cottages)

Suydersee BBQ Contest opnieuw een jaar uitgesteld!

De vierde en vijfde editie van de International Suydersee BBQ Contest wordt vanwege het coronavirus opnieuw uitgesteld en verschoven naar volgend jaar. Nadat het evenement in 2020 ook niet door kon gaan, zouden de wedstrijden nu plaatsvinden in het weekend van 3 t/m 5 september. Het driedaagse evenement is nu verplaatst naar 2, 3 en 4 september 2022.

“Na lang wikken en wegen hebben we besloten om dit jaar de bbq wedstrijd niet te organiseren. Een internationale wedstrijd organiseren, opbouwen en draaien met zo’n 40 teams, vrijwilligers en bezoekers op 1,5 meter afstand is helaas een onhandelbare situatie”, aldus René de Regt (organisatie). Daarnaast is in andere landen waar veel van onze deelnemers vandaan komen de corona ook nog steeds niet onder controle en hebben alle landen weer hun eigen restricties bijvoorbeeld qua reizen, dus dat maakt het er ook allemaal niet makkelijker op.

Helaas rest ons derhalve geen andere mogelijkheid om de wedstrijd door te schuiven naar 2, 3 en 4 september 2022 en dan willen we er een groot feest van maken!

Wij hopen dat we volgend jaar weer op jullie steun mogen rekenen want zonder wedstrijdteams, juryleden, sponsoren en een bbq wedstrijd niet mogelijk
